There's no denying there's been a huge rise in the use of concrete in interior design. The possibilities are endless when it comes to architectural concrete so we took 10 minutes to chat with Jason and Kate Lett, the talented husband and wife team behind Concrete Nation, to get their tips on the best ways to incorporate concrete into a home, emerging trends and their stylish new colours.
We love that so many people are incorporating raw materials like concrete into their homes. What are some popular ways to do so?
One of our most popular ways to incorporate concrete into the home is in the kitchen. Concrete gives a modern, natural feel to the kitchen, which is often the heart of the home. The handmade nature of it allows us to make any shape, size, or colour so you can have a one-of-a-kind work of art in the heart of your home.
With open plan living being so popular, we find a lot of our customers are continuing concrete through to their outdoor entertaining and barbecue areas.
Another simple and effective way to add concrete to your home is with one of our dining tables. Each one is custom-made to order so we can do any size.
People also love the custom look that concrete vanities can bring to their bathrooms. We are doing a lot of floating vanities with integral sinks as well as timber vanities with concrete basins.
Last, but certainly not least, is our Oasis freestanding bath. It is the ultimate luxury and customers are blown away by how comfortable and affordable it is.
What are some concrete trends to watch out for?
Colour! Customers are bored with the norm and want something different. What better way to do that than with coloured concrete! We are so excited for our new range of coloured basins.
Where do you draw your inspiration when creating bespoke pieces for clients?
Everywhere! Sometimes clients come to us knowing exactly what they want and other times they look to us for inspiration. We always look at the environment around where the piece will be going to determine the best design, colour, and finish to suit the space.
Concrete can create so many different moods depending on colour, thickness, shape, and what it is pared with. Its versatility is of the things we love most about concrete.
Favourite piece you’ve created to date?
It is actually a piece we made years ago. We called it the “wave bench top” and it was an island bench with a curved front panel that came up from the floor to meet the bench top. It was just so unique and was truly a work of art. We love being able to get creative with our clients.
What interesting projects are you working on at the moment?
We always have lots of fun projects on the go. Everyday is a new challenge and that’s what we love about concrete! We have been working with a client on creating a new version of the wave bench so we are excited to work on that in 2018.
